What affects PCB assembly lead time?
PCB assembly lead time depends on PCB fabrication, component availability, procurement lead time, assembly requirements, programming, testing, production quantity, and current manufacturing capacity.
For turnkey projects, a long-lead-time component may determine the overall project schedule even when PCB fabrication and SMT assembly can be completed quickly.
How long does prototype PCB assembly take?
There is no single lead time that applies to every prototype.
The schedule depends on PCB fabrication requirements, BOM availability, component sourcing, assembly complexity, programming, testing, and whether a test fixture or other production preparation is required.
For a specific estimate, we review the manufacturing files and BOM before confirming the schedule.
Does a larger PCB assembly quantity always require a longer lead time?
No.
Order quantity affects material requirements, purchasing, production scheduling, and assembly time, but it is not the only factor.
A smaller build containing a difficult-to-source component can have a longer overall lead time than a larger repeat order for which materials are already available.
Can you confirm PCB assembly lead time before we place the purchase order?
Yes.
Lead time can be evaluated during quotation based on PCB fabrication requirements, BOM availability, production quantity, assembly requirements, programming, testing, and the requested delivery date.
If specific components have extended lead times or availability risks, these can be identified before the production schedule is confirmed.
Can you help if a component is causing a long lead time?
Yes.
We can review potential second-source or alternative components when appropriate.
For design-sensitive components, electrical specifications, package, footprint, pinout, voltage/current ratings, thermal requirements, and other applicable specifications may need to be reviewed.
Any proposed substitution is submitted for customer review and approval before purchasing or production.
What happens if there is a sudden component shortage?
Availability can change because of unexpected market demand, allocation, manufacturer capacity, supply-chain disruption, or rapid demand growth from a particular industry.
If a required component becomes difficult to obtain, we can review distributor availability, manufacturer lead time, approved sourcing options, and potential second-source components where applicable.
The impact on the production schedule is discussed before the delivery date is confirmed.
Why do some specialized components have very long lead times?
Specialized components may have limited production volume, few authorized distribution sources, uncommon specifications, high MOQ requirements, or made-to-order manufacturing schedules.
Even when the component is active and not affected by a general shortage, the normal procurement lead time may still be long.
This is why BOM availability is checked at the actual project level.
Can you support expedited PCB assembly?
Yes, depending on the project.
Expedited production can be evaluated after PCB fabrication, component availability, manufacturing capacity, assembly requirements, programming, and testing requirements are reviewed.
We do not confirm an expedited delivery date until these requirements have been checked.
Can you manufacture a test fixture according to our test method?
Depending on the product and test requirements, yes.
We can review customer-provided test procedures, test points, operating conditions, required measurements, communication interfaces, programming requirements, and pass/fail criteria.
Where required, a production test fixture can be designed and built according to the agreed testing requirements.
Fixture development scope, validation requirements, and applicable NRE costs are reviewed before implementation.
Can forecast information help reduce future production lead time?
Yes.
For repeat production, forecast information can help identify long-lead-time components, MOQ requirements, and potential supply risks before the next production order is released.
Material purchasing and inventory arrangements depend on the agreed production and commercial requirements.
