Engineering Review Before the First Taiwan Build

A manufacturing transfer can expose requirements that were understood by the previous supplier but never formally documented.

This is particularly common with mature products where assembly methods, component substitutions, test procedures, programming steps, or production adjustments may have evolved over multiple production runs.

Before the first build, our engineering and sourcing teams review the available information in the areas that affect manufacturability, sourcing, inspection, and testing.

BOM & Component Sourcing Review

Component availability may change between the previous production run and a new manufacturing program. Parts that were previously available may now have longer lead times, higher MOQ requirements, restricted distribution, supply constraints, or lifecycle issues.

The BOM may be reviewed for:

A typical transfer program may follow this sequence:

Review the available production files and identify missing information.

2. BOM & Sourcing Review
Check manufacturer part numbers, availability, lifecycle status, MOQ, lead time, and sourcing risks.

3. PCB & Assembly Review
Review PCB fabrication and assembly requirements against the available manufacturing documentation.

4. Quotation & Production Planning
Define PCB fabrication, component procurement, assembly, programming, inspection, testing, and other required processes.

5. Material Preparation
Procure or prepare approved PCBs and components according to the agreed sourcing model.

6. First Taiwan Transfer Build
Build an initial production quantity to verify the transferred manufacturing information.

7. Inspection, Programming & Testing
Perform the required inspection, programming, ICT, functional testing, or other customer-defined procedures.

8. Transfer Review
Document differences, missing requirements, manufacturing issues, or necessary process adjustments identified during the first build.

9. Production Release
